On
January 14 & 16, 2006 six*web pages were created with
Adobe's Dreamweaver for this tutorial. Of the six web pages made, four of
them were designed to be search friendly landing/silo pages (including this
very About page). They were then up-loaded to the hosting service, Aplus.net
on these same two dates.
The
four search friendly landing pages (see chart below) are not part of a dedicated
domain name, they are located in a folder titled "lynda" one level
below the domain, www.websearchengineer.com/.
Here is an example: http://www.websearchengineer.com/lynda/carousel_santa_monica.html.
The four pages will be competing for a high search ranking
along with
1,630,000 other
search results listed for the keywords "Santa Monica
Pier," 222,000 for the keywords "Santa
Monica Carousel," 166,000 for Santa
Monica Merry Go Round," and 31,800 for
Santa Monica Pier Merry Go Round in three search engines: MSN
Search, Yahoo, and Google.
Of these
four pages, one will also be submitted to the Dmoz.org directory
(Open Directory Project).
Each page design wise are identical. The
differences in the pages is the subtle use of the keywords and their strategic
placement on the pages in the HTML Meta tag code, alt tags etc. This very
page you are reading will also be a part of this SEO tutorial, but it
is a minor player in this test.
Richard John Jenkins of Web Search Engineer, and Lynda.com are not attempting to mislead web searchers or the search engines with these test/training web pages for the keywords that are used for it.
All of the web pages for these tutorials clearly show & state
on each page that they are part of an SEO training (see example icon above left).
Only white hat ethical SEO
best practices were employed in the creation of these web pages for viewers
of the Lynda.com tutorials, web searchers who may find the site through a
search query, and the search engines they use to conduct their search.
Richard John Jenkins is a member of SEMPO.org (www. sempo.org) and follows the SEO Code of Ethics as outlined by Bruce Clay of Bruce Clay.com (www.bruceclay.com).
